Blanchette Ferry Hooker was born on October 2, 1909 in New York City. After graduating with a degree in music from Vassar College in 1931, she married John D. Rockefeller 3rd on November 11, 1932.

Blanchette embraced the Rockefeller family tradition of philanthropic work, with a particular emphasis on the arts. From donations to the "Friends of the Vassar Art Gallery" to active involvement with the Asia Society (an organization founded by her husband) and the New York State Council on the Arts, Blanchette worked throughout her life to promote the arts, both locally and nationally.

One of Blanchette's primary interests was the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), which she first became involved in through the Junior Council, which she established in 1949. Her relationship with MoMA grew throughout the years, as she served as a trustee from 1953 to 1987. During her time at MoMA, Blanchette served twice as President and once as Chairman of the Board and guided the museum through renovations, expansions, and their 50th Anniversary.

Blanchette Hooker Rockefeller died at her home in Briarcliff Manor, New York on November 29, 1992.
